CONNECTING CULTURES

CO-DESIGNED SIMULATED PLACEMENT

CO-DESIGN MODEL

This program was not designed for Aboriginal communities. It was designed by them.

Every simulation, every scenario, and every design decision has been shaped, refined and approved by Community. Aboriginal sovereignty is not a feature of this program. It is the foundation.

ABOUT CONNECTING CULTURES

ABORIGINAL LED

Connecting Cultures was created from the lived experience of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples who have long sought to improve the relationship between Community and social workers. Their knowledge, their stories, and their authority guide everything in this program.

EVIDENCE BASED

The program is grounded in the 8 Aboriginal Ways of Learning alongside culturally responsive social work theory and practice, ensuring students develop the skills to engage ethically and effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.

IMMERSIVE EXPERIENCE

Students enter first-person virtual reality simulations set on Country, engaging directly with simulated community members in scenarios designed to build cultural competence, situational awareness, and reflective practice in a safe-to-fail environment.

WRAP-AROUND ELEARNING

Each simulation sits within a structured learning pathway. Contextual eLearning before, and guided reflection after ensuring the VR experience is part of a comprehensive practice-based journey, not a standalone event.

Connecting Cultures acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of the land on which we live, work, and gather. We recognise their continuing connection to land, sea, and community. We acknowledge that sovereignty was never ceded.

We pay our respects to Elders past and present and extend that respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples visiting us today.
